Eyüpspor’s Süper Lig dreams unraveled in a disastrous first half as Göztepe stormed to a 4-0 victory, capitalizing on an early red card and Andre Henrique’s clinical hat-trick. The match, played in front of a stunned home crowd, was decided just 10 minutes in when Ahmed Abdullahi’s reckless challenge earned him a straight red card, leaving Eyüpspor with a mountain to climb.
Göztepe’s Early Breakthrough
Juan Santos stepped up to convert the resulting penalty in the 11th minute, coolly slotting the ball past Horatiu Moldovan to give Göztepe the lead. Eyüpspor’s frustration grew as they struggled to regain composure, with Seyfettin Anıl Yaşar joining Abdullahi in the book moments before halftime for a rash tackle. Göztepe, meanwhile, pressed their advantage, with Henrique doubling the lead in the 54th minute with a precise finish from inside the box.
Henrique’s Masterclass Unstoppable
Henrique wasn’t done yet. Just five minutes later, he struck again, finishing a well-worked move to make it 3-0 and effectively sealing the game. Eyüpspor’s attempts to rally were futile, and Henrique completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 76th minute after a handball in the box. Göztepe’s dominance was evident in the stats, with 19 total shots and an expected goals tally of 3.21, while Eyüpspor managed just 7 shots and a meager 1.39 xG.
Eyüpspor’s Collapse
Eyüpspor’s misery was compounded by their inability to hold possession despite finishing with 53%, as their defense crumbled under relentless pressure. The home side made all five substitutions in a desperate bid to stem the tide, but Göztepe’s defense held firm, with goalkeeper Arda Özçimen making 4 crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet.
What This Result Means
For Göztepe, this commanding victory reaffirms their Süper Lig credentials, moving them up the table with a statement win. Henrique’s heroics will be the talk of İzmir, his hat-trick a testament to his lethal finishing. Meanwhile, Eyüpspor’s season is in disarray, with the red card and subsequent collapse exposing their fragility. As the Süper Lig season continues, Göztepe will look to build on this momentum, while Eyüpspor must regroup quickly to salvage their campaign.
