Primeira Liga Shock as Alverca Destroy Famalicao 4-1
Famalicao’s Estadio Municipal de Braga became a house of horrors for the hosts as Alverca ripped them apart in a brutal 4-1 Primeira Liga demolition – a result that sees the visitors leapfrog their shellshocked opponents in the table.
Famalicao’s Nightmare Start
The warning signs flashed early for Carlos Carvalhal’s side. Pedro Bondo Francisco and Víctor Rofino both saw yellow inside 13 chaotic minutes – the latter’s lapse in concentration proving fatal seconds later. Francisco Chiquinho pounced in the 14th minute, driving Alverca’s first shot of the game into the net past a static defense. Famalicao’s 65% possession meant nothing.
When Víctor Rofino made amends in the 39th minute – volleying home Marcos Peña’s cross – the home crowd dared to believe. But this was the eye of the hurricane.
Alverca’s Relentless Counter-Attack
The visitors absorbed pressure like a black hole swallowing light. Their 35% possession belied the truth – every Alverca touch was surgical. Lucas Figueiredo dos Santos restored their lead in the 56th minute, finishing Diogo Spencer’s feed with a crisp low strike. Then came the killer blow – Vivaldo Semedo raced onto Mateus Oliveira Mendes’ through ball to make it 3-1 in the 77th minute, the home defense in tatters.
André Vidigal’s 85th-minute penalty, thumped straight down the middle after a clumsy foul, was the final indignity. The away fans’ chants of “Que horas são? Hora do Alverca!” (What time is it? Alverca time!) drowned out the scattering home support.
What This Means for Both Teams
For Famalicao, a third straight league defeat raises urgent questions. Their xG of 0.4 tells the story – all possession, no cutting edge. Alverca’s 2.92 xG from just 35% possession is a masterclass in efficiency. Sérgio Ferreira’s men now sit above Famalicao, their 10 shots inside the box a testament to ruthless precision.
The Primeira Liga table has a new surprise package. For Famalicao? Only soul-searching remains after a humiliation that will linger long in the memory.
