Toulouse Stun Monaco with Late Fightback in 2-2 Draw

Monaco 2-2 Toulouse: Ligue 1 Drama as Visitors Fight Back

Monaco let a two-goal lead slip as Toulouse roared back with a penalty and a brilliant equalizer to snatch a 2-2 draw in a breathless Ligue 1 encounter at Stade Louis II. The hosts looked in total control after Edan Diop and Matthis Abline struck before the break, but Casper Tengstedt’s spot-kick and Sion Oppong’s clinical finish sparked a Toulouse revival that left Monaco stunned.

Monaco’s First-Half Dominance

The principality side clicked into gear after 29 minutes when teenage sensation Diop – just 18 years old – fizzed home Aleksandr Golovin’s cutback, the Russian’s ninth assist of the season already. Nine minutes later, Abline doubled the advantage with a predatory finish after more good work from Diop, Monaco slicing through Toulouse at will with 58% possession and 10 first-half shots.

Toulouse’s Gritty Second-Half Fightback

Everything changed in first-half stoppage time when Flavio Nazinho’s yellow-card challenge gifted Toulouse a lifeline. Tengstedt smashed home the penalty (48′), and suddenly the visitors grew in belief. Their xG of 1.49 told its own story – when Oppong latched onto Tengstedt’s clever flick to slot past Lukáš Hrádecký (59′), Monaco’s defence fell apart. Despite late pressure, including two Ansu Fati cameos off the bench, Toulouse held firm through eight minutes of added time.

What This Means for Both Sides

For Monaco, dropping points from 2-0 up will sting, especially after their Champions League exertions. But Toulouse’s spirit was immense – coming back on the road with just 42% possession shows Jens Berthel Askou’s side have steel to match their talent. Both teams remain mid-table, but Toulouse’s never-say-die attitude here could define their season.
