Dourado’s Late Strike Rescues 1-1 Draw for Juarez vs Tijuana

FC Juarez 1-1 Club Tijuana: Liga MX Apertura Clash Ends in Stalemate

The Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez erupted in relief as Rodrigo Dourado’s late strike snatched a 1-1 draw for FC Juarez against Club Tijuana in a Liga MX Apertura match that crackled with tension until the final whistle.

Tijuana Take Control From the Spot

The visitors struck first in controversial fashion. On 28 minutes, VAR intervened to award Tijuana a penalty after Adonis Preciado went down under pressure in the box. Mourad El Ghezouani made no mistake from the spot three minutes later, sending Juarez goalkeeper Sebastián Jurado the wrong way to put the Xolos ahead.

Juarez struggled to respond before the break, their frustration boiling over when Monchu saw yellow in first-half stoppage time. Coach Tiago Campos responded with three attacking subs before the hour mark, including the introduction of Eder López and Luca Dupuy to spark their stagnant attack.

Juarez’s Fightback Fuelled by Substitutes

The changes injected urgency into Juarez’s play. Their 58% possession finally translated to chances as Dupuy’s movement stretched Tijuana’s backline. But discipline remained an issue – three more yellow cards followed as the hosts chased the game.

The breakthrough came six minutes from time. Substitute Rodrigo Dourado, on the pitch just nine minutes, met Daniel Piña’s floated cross with a thumping header that gave Tijuana keeper Antonio Rodríguez no chance. The 84th-minute equaliser sent the home crowd into raptures.

What This Result Means

For Juarez, Dourado’s late heroics paper over cracks in their attack – their xG of 1.18 highlights their struggles to create clear chances. But the character shown to fight back will please Campos after three consecutive defeats.

Tijuana will rue dropping two points after controlling large spells. Sergio Abreu’s men showed defensive resilience (13 total shots conceded but only 5 on target) but their lack of a second goal proved costly. They stay mid-table while Juarez climb off the bottom.

This fiery encounter sets up an intriguing Clausura rematch – with these teams separated by just one point in the table, their next meeting could be pivotal in the Liga MX play-off race.
