Casa Pia 0-1 Santa Clara: Late Agony in Primeira Liga Battle

Joao Vasconcelos broke 10-man Casa Pia’s resistance in the 92nd minute to hand Santa Clara a dramatic 1-0 Primeira Liga victory that sent the Estadio Pina Manique into stunned silence.

Discipline Unravels Casa Pia’s Resistance

For 50 minutes, Filipe Coelho’s men had battled valiantly against Santa Clara’s 62% possession, David Sousa throwing himself into every challenge… until VAR intervened. The defender’s yellow for a lunge on Brenner was upgraded to red after a monitor check, leaving Casa Pia to survive 40+ minutes a man down. Henrique Araújo’s immediate booking for dissent cranked the tension higher, Santos Oliveira’s yellow for Santa Clara moments later proving this derby was boiling over.

Santa Clara’s Relentless Pressure Finally Tells

Santa Clara fired 14 shots but found Ivan Mandić a wall – until Lucas Soares peeled wide right in stoppage time. His whipped cross found substitute Vasconcelos, who celebrated his 92nd-minute winner with a yellow card for ripping his shirt off in ecstasy. Casa Pia’s Geraldes and Santa Clara’s Ferreira and Gonçalo Paciência saw yellows in a fractious finale, but the damage was done.

What This Primeira Liga Result Means

Santa Clara’s smash-and-grab moves them up the table, capitalising fully on Sousa’s dismissal. For Casa Pia, the agony of holding on so long only to collapse late – their xG of 0.51 telling the story of a side who never recovered from going a man down. The derby’s fire burns brighter next time.
