Nino’s Stoppage-Time Stunner Grabs Malaga 1-1 Espanyol

Malaga 1-1 Espanyol – La Liga Drama at La Rosaleda

The clock ticked into the 93rd minute at La Rosaleda when Adrian Nino’s right boot sent the blue-and-white halves of Malaga into contrasting ecstasy and agony, snatching a 1-1 draw from Espanyol’s grasp in a La Liga thriller that crackled with late drama.

Espanyol Strike Early Through Zaragoza

Bryan Zaragoza needed just 13 minutes to silence the home crowd, sweeping home Francisco Javier Hernandez’s cutback with the cold precision of a veteran. The 20-year-old winger wheeled away cupping his ears – this was his night, his stage. Espanyol’s compact 4-2-3-1 repelled Malaga’s possession (58%) with brutal efficiency, their 42% ball share belying the menace of rapid counters.

The game simmered with tension as three yellow cards flashed in four mad minutes – Hernandez and Zaragoza for Espanyol, Carlos Puga for Malaga – before Carlos Ruiz Rubio joined the book before halftime. Espanyol’s xG lead (1.05 to 0.67) told the truth: they were making their moments count.

Malaga’s Relentless Second-Half Onslaught

Funes threw on attackers like poker chips – Aznou, Nino, Merino – as Malaga’s 15 total shots (7 on target) began ratcheting up. Espanyol’s defence creaked but held, Ángel Fortuño pulling off six saves including a miraculous double-stop in the 68th minute. The visitors’ yellow cards mounted: El Hilali, Riedel, Hinojo all cautioned as the pressure told.

Then, with the fourth official’s board showing three added minutes, Rafael Garrido’s speculative cross found Nino unmarked. The substitute’s first-time finish sparked bedlam – a cathartic release after 92 minutes of frustration for Malaga’s 58% possession and 8 corners finally bearing fruit.

What This La Liga Stalemate Means

For Espanyol, it’s two points dropped from a position of control – Zaragoza’s early magic undone by defensive fatigue. Manolo González will rage at conceding from their only major lapse. Malaga’s never-say-die spirit keeps their unbeaten home run intact, Nino emerging as the super-sub hero. With the derby intensity still crackling in the Andalusian air, both sides limp away bruised but unbowed from a classic La Liga scrap.
