Patrick’s Magic Seals 2-1 Win for Internacional Over Corinthians

Internacional Hold Nerve to Edge Corinthians 2-1 in Serie A Thriller

International struck early through Vitinho and late through Alan Patrick to edge Corinthians 2-1 in a pulsating Serie A encounter that saw tempers flare and momentum swing violently until the final whistle. The hosts survived a late scare when André pulled one back for Corinthians, but Eduardo Baptista’s side held firm to claim a vital three points in their pursuit of continental football.

Internacional’s Lightning Start

The Beira-Rio erupted after just 60 seconds when Vitinho, latching onto Alan Patrick’s incisive pass, swept home past Hugo Souza to stun the visitors. Corinthians’ high defensive line was exposed instantly, their 72% possession count rendered meaningless by Internacional’s surgical counter. The hosts could have doubled their lead before the half-hour mark, but their 12 first-half fouls told another story – this was becoming a battle as much as a football match.

Corinthians’ Frustration Boils Over

Fernando Diniz’s side saw Breno Bidon and Kaio César booked before the break, their frustration mounting as Internacional’s compact 4-2-3-1 formation suffocated space. The visitors’ 15 second-half shots told a tale of increasing desperation, with Gustavo Henrique’s 58th-minute yellow card summing up their night. When Alan Patrick curled in a gorgeous 77th-minute second from Bruno Henrique’s cutback, it seemed game over.

Late Drama as Corinthians Rally

But Corinthians responded within three minutes through substitute André, capitalizing on Vitinho’s clever dummy to fire home. Suddenly it was Internacional clinging on, Gabriel Mercado’s 95th-minute yellow card reflecting their nerves. Anthoni’s six saves proved crucial, particularly from Matheus Pereira’s late piledriver, as the hosts survived a staggering 22 shots against.

What This Means For Both Sides

For Internacional, this hard-fought win keeps their continental dreams alive, moving them within touching distance of the top six. Corinthians will rue their wastefulness – their 12 corners yielding just one goal – as Diniz’s men slip further adrift in mid-table. When these giants clash again in April, there may well be even more at stake.
